Special Report: Orpheus Uranium has expanded its uranium portfolio with the acquisition of the Oobagooma project in Western Australia’s Canning Basin from Elevate Uranium.

The project is known to host shallow uranium mineralisation within a sedimentary roll-front geological setting with historical exploration returning intersections of up to 1.65m at 3775ppm eU3O8 from 53.15m.

Geological modelling has highlighted the potential for exploration upside with the interpretation of at least four prospective roll fronts along a 9km strike length.

Having historical uranium intersections providesOrpheus Uranium (ASX:ORP)with a solid base for renewed exploration using modern techniques.

It certainly doesn’t hurt that privately-held Heathgate Resources has lodged exploration licence applications over the surrounding ground.

That one of Australia’s two in situ recovery uranium producers has entered the district is an encouraging sign of its exploration potential, reinforcing the company’s decision to acquire Oobagooma as well as apply for surrounding tenure.

With the acquisition now completed, the company plans to advance its assessment of historical drilling in order to define a conceptual exploration target by December 2026.

South Australian exploration

Meanwhile, first pass drilling at the Erudina prospect within the company’s Frome project in South Australia has identified highly prospective geological settings and geochemical characteristics consistent with sedimentary-style uranium mineralisation hosted in the fertile Callabonna Sub-Basin.

A total of 18 holes totalling 3600m were completed, with downhole logging in 16 holes recording nine peak readings above 100ppm eU3O8, including two exceeding 400ppm eU3O8.

This has defined two north–south-trending corridors extending at least 2.2km in strike that are marked by distinct redox changes within Tertiary Eyre Formation sediments of the Callabonna Sub-Basin.

Now known as the Siccus East and Siccus West targets, these represent targets for follow-up exploration that will provide the basis for defining an exploration target at Frome.

ORP also has Siccus North, a potential northern continuation of these corridors, and Siccus South, an early-stage exploration concept targeting a deeper, localised unit of possible Cretaceous age and possible association with glacial sediment, under the microscope to determine if they could be added to the target queue.

The newly defined prospect areas and regional drill spacing leave scope for deposits with mineralising footprints comparable to known Callabonna Sub-Basin deposits.

“This program highlights the strength of our technical team and its ability to use historical data to develop and test geological models,” managing director Clinton Dubieniecki said.

He added that efficient testing of the extensive Frome project requires a rigorous approach based on geochemical interpreted first principles.

“Our approach here reflects the need to understand the redox front at scale and the recently completed drilling has supported key geological and geochemical predictions and helped refine four prospective areas, giving us a clearer basis for further exploration at Frome,” Dubieniecki noted.

“We can now plan more focused drilling around areas that share geological characteristics and comparable footprints with known deposits in the region.

“What is particularly encouraging is the opportunity to apply what we have learned across our other uranium projects, where we see similar potential to refine prospects and build on the work already completed.”
